Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and weaponisation of energy, coupled with China's increasing dominance of raw material supply chains and global manufacturing, have highlighted the risks of depending on autocrats and adversaries for critical resources.

Europe must embrace a new energy realism to address existential economic and security challenges. Policymakers and industry leaders across Europe must promote solutions to improve energy security, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.

About EIES

The European Initiative for Energy Security (EIES) was launched in the wake of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine to advance policies that support diverse supply chains, resilient energy systems, and a strong European industrial base.

EIES develops robust policy research and convenes policymakers, business and military leaders to promote collaboration across silos and between like-minded countries in the face of global challenges.
