European Initiative for Energy Security

Location: Berlin

The Opportunity

The European Initiative for Energy Security (EIES), established in December 2023, is a mission-driven organisation which advocates for pan-European and national policies that improve our collective resource security and economic competitiveness as Europe moves from a fossil-fuel to a minerals- and clean-tech-based energy system. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and weaponisation of energy, coupled with China's increasing dominance of raw material supply chains and global manufacturing, have highlighted the risks of depending on autocrats and adversaries for critical resources. EIES is dedicated to fostering collaboration between policymakers and industry leaders to address critical energy challenges and champion comprehensive solutions for the benefit of Europe's energy security, transition, and industrial transformation. EIES works with its Energy Security Leadership Council-Europe (ESLC-Europe), composed of military, political and business figures, to achieve these goals.

You will work with EIES’ Germany Director to support the implementation of EIES’ objectives in Germany, particularly in the areas of energy infrastructure, critical raw materials, supply chain security, and industrial competitiveness. The position combines communications, stakeholder coordination, and organisational responsibilities, with opportunities to contribute to substantive policy work depending on interest and experience. Weekly worktime will be up to 20 hours.

Key Responsibilities

Communications & Digital Outreach

  • Support the management and growth of EIES’ social media presence in Germany (e.g. LinkedIn), including drafting posts, coordinating content, and monitoring engagement.

  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of digital newsletters and stakeholder outreach campaigns (e.g. managing mailing lists, coordinating content inputs).

  • Support the development of communications materials such as presentations, briefings, event invitations, and short policy summaries.

Stakeholder & Back Office Support

  • Assist in scheduling meetings and coordinating the calendar for the Germany Director.

  • Support preparation for meetings with policymakers, industry representatives, and civil society actors (e.g. background research, briefing notes, contact database updates).

  • Maintain and update stakeholder databases and contact management systems.

  • Provide logistical and organisational support for events, roundtables, and external engagements.

Policy & Research Support (as desired)

  • Support the implementation of EIES’ energy security and industrial competitiveness strategy at the national level.

  • Conduct background research on German and European energy, industrial, critical raw materials, and security policy issues.

  • Assist in drafting background notes, short memos, and research summaries.

  • Contribute to ongoing research projects and policy initiatives where appropriate.

Other responsibilities not listed may be added based on the individual’s skills and background.
